The problem

The bit nobody enjoys

The hardware decision is the easy part. This is where a switch usually goes wrong.

  • There is a new Mac in the box and you have been avoiding it for three weeks.
  • Everything you need is on a Windows PC and you have no idea what transfers.
  • Migration Assistant started, stalled, and now you are not sure what moved.
  • Your email is set up on the old machine and you do not know the settings.
  • Photos and documents are split across iCloud, an external drive and Desktop.
  • The old Mac died before you copied anything off it.

The solution

How the handover works

Bring both machines in, or we come to you. Most straightforward migrations are done within the minimum charge.

  1. 01

    Inventory before we move anything

We work out what actually needs to come across — documents, mail, photos, contacts, calendars, bookmarks, licences, printers — and what is better left behind.

  2. 02

    Transfer, verified

Files come across from PC or Mac, including from a machine that will not boot, and we check the count and the contents on the other side rather than assuming.

  3. 03

Set the new Mac up properly

Apple ID and iCloud, mail accounts, printers, the software you rely on, and a backup running from day one — not six months later.

  4. 04

    Show you what changed

A short walkthrough of the Mac equivalents of the things you used every day, so you are not hunting for them on Monday morning.

What you get

Why people choose us for this

  • Nothing gets left behind

We check what arrived rather than trusting a progress bar that said it finished.

  • Your old machine handled safely

Securely wiped before you sell, donate or recycle it — or taken on consignment if it still has value.

  • Email that works on the first try

Accounts, servers and signatures configured, including the awkward work ones.

  • Backup running from day one

The new Mac leaves with a backup already configured, because that is when it matters most.

  • In shop, remote or at your desk

$110 an hour in shop or remote, $165 if we come to you and do it in place.

  • Even from a Mac that won’t start

A dead machine is not a lost machine. In most cases the storage is fine and everything comes across.

Questions

PC to Mac Migration & New Mac Setup — frequently asked

Can you move files from a Windows PC to a Mac?

Yes — documents, photos, music, mail, contacts, calendars and bookmarks all transfer. Windows-only applications do not, and we will tell you before the move which of your programs have a Mac equivalent and which need a different plan.

How long does a migration take, and what does it cost?

Most single-machine migrations fall within the $110 minimum charge. Very large photo libraries, mail archives or a source drive that is failing take longer, and we will tell you that before we start rather than after.

My old Mac will not turn on. Is my data gone?

Usually not. A Mac that will not power on very often has perfectly healthy storage behind a failed power or logic board, and we can read the drive and move everything to the new machine.

Do you set up iCloud and Apple ID as well?

Yes. Apple ID, iCloud, Photos, Drive and device sync are part of the setup, and we sort out the common problem of two Apple IDs having accumulated over the years.

Can you set this up at my home or office?

Yes. On-site setup is $165 an hour, which is often the better option when printers, a network and several devices all need to end up talking to each other.
